Will no religious people be forgiven or just the religious…

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”...Luke 18:9-14.

 

In this parable…Jesus says the one who confessed his sin and that he was a sinner was justified or just-as-if -I’d never sinned. Yet the religious Pharisees gave God his resume of being religious and never confessed his sin. The tax collector knew he was a sinful man in need of mercy but the religious Pharisee thought he had no sin and was telling God how grateful he was that he was not a sinner. Oh may we realize where we stand with God as sinful men and women.

 

Jesus died on a cross to take away our sinful pasts and give us future with Him. Jesus said unless one is born of the water and the Spirit a person cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus said unless one believes He died and was raised from the dead and is baptized will be saved. IN this parable we read the value of confession of sin. Have you beat your chest and asked God to forgive you a sinner…yes or no? Have you been baptized to obey Jesus…yes or no?

 

Prayer

Father please forgive us of our sins we are just sinners without you justifying us…please show us mercy and grant us repentance where we need to grow closer to you…please meet our soul;s deepest needs so we can be reconciled to You and Your only Son Jesus who died on the cross and was raised from the dead to cleanse us…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.

A short devotional on the Unjust Judge in the last of days…

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”...Luke 18:1-8.

 

Just before Jesus gave us this parable He spoke of dark times in which we would want to see one of the days of the Son of man. In this parable Jesus speaks of the authority of a unjust judge. This judge does not regard man or God. He only does what he thinks best. There is a widow who has none to support here and she just keep coming to the judge for justice. The Judge does not care about he widow or her just cause but is only worried that she keeps coming and pestering him. He gives her the justice she asked for. Jesus said hear what the unjust judge said…he did it out of personal reasons not due to justice or mercy. We today are living in the last of days and we will have to face people and authority of this type. May we be wise in the ways of this world to get our just causes done.

We should give God thanks for His many blessings…

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”...Luke 17:11-19.

 

How many Christians take for granted blessings coming from God? There were ten lepers cleansed and only one gave thanks to the source. Many of us give credit to the doctors and not to God or as is has been said God does the healing and the doctor collects the fee. Perhaps we should be like this outcast among outcasts…a leper was an outcast but to also be a Samaritan was double trouble, yet his heart declared gratitude and honor to the source of His cleansing and healing. May we all give God thanks for the miracles and blessings in our lives.

 

Prayer

Father thank you for the times in my life where you have healed me, comforted me  and thanks you for being a blessing to me in so many ways, please meet our soul’s deepest need for a heart of gratitude and forgive me of the times I have not been grateful for the things in my life…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.
