Ever been tempted by the devil…Jesus was…

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread. And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.

Forty days without eating and was asked to turn stones into bread. This appealed to His flesh and His position in life…for the devil said IF you be the Son of God. It also would have been pleasing to His eyes to see food after having not eaten and was hungry.

And he led him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Here satan tries to appeal to the position in life as well. He shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and basically says You will not have to die or suffer but I will make them do Your will. This would have also been pleasing to His eyes and His flesh.

And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for a season...Luke 4:1-13.

Here satan tempts Jesus one last time. Again satan uses the word IF. IF You are the Son of God…tempting His position in life. Jesus would have to feel an angel and seen an angel also tempting His eyes and His flesh. Jesus responded with scripture and prevailed for you and me.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever...1 John 2:15-17.

The devil will tempt your flesh, your position or pride in who or what you are, and he will use the lust of the eyes to do it. Let us like Jesus respond with the written word of God and have a thus it is written…Just Like Jesus Did. We have to fill our minds with the word of God to quote the written word…let us study to show ourselves approved of God.

Prayer

Father please prevent and lead us not into temptation, trial, and testing. Please keep satan and his warfare away from us. Please keep us from being drawn by the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. We renounce satan and want nothing to do with him or his kingdom. Please quench all the fiery darts of your adversary and be jealous for us and our relationship with You and Your Only Son Jesus…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.

What person can beat their chest or say I am righteous to God

He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God...Micah 6:8?

And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get. But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me a sinner. I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted...Luke 18:9-14.

What person can beat their chest or say I am righteous to God?

Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do...Luke 17:10. We are truly unprofitable servants of God because we require the blood of Jesus Christ to forgive us our sins or evil deeds. None is righteous for all have sinned and fallen short of the Perfection or Glory of God. Jesus imputed righteousness is our only claim to heaven. May we all be humble and walk in the Light as Jesus is in the light so we can be continually cleansed of our wrongs.

Prayer

Father we are but unprofitable servants please forgive us and equip us to serve You and Your only Son Jesus and meet our soul’s deepest needs and heal our bodies…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.

About Jesus of Nazareth…

but of the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever; And the sceptre of uprightness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee With the oil of gladness above thy fellows...Hebrews 1:8-9. though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation...Hebrews 5:8-9. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him...John 3:16-17. and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him...1 John 2:2-4.

Do you know God’s only Son Jesus the Christ of Nazareth…yes or no? Have you died to yourself and are living for Jesus after being baptized? Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead after having offered himself as a sacrifice for sin in the atoning work of salvation. Jesus is the propitiation or forever atoning sacrifice for our sinful or evil deeds.  All we who have been baptized need to do is stop our evil or sinful deeds and confess our sins and we have reconciliation with God our Father. Are you faithful to Jesus you staying in the will and working of God by keeping the commandments…Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one (Authority) : and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these....Mark 12:29-31.

Prayer

Father please forgive us and grant us repentance unto the confession of our evil or sinful deeds and meet our soul’s deepest needs and heal us from our own sinful pasts…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.
