Repentance and remission of sins…
Repentance and remission of sins…
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem...Luke 24:46-47.
What does repentance involve…a changed heart, mind, and action. When it is written repentance and remission of sins should be preached…what is remission and repentance. Repentance is a heart, mind, and life committed to Jesus turning from selfish desires and actions…man’s part of salvation. Remission of sins…is God not imputing the sins of our lives…it is what some call grace…God’s part of salvation. When Ben, my life does not measure up to the standard of holiness or perfection then Jesus imputes the difference to justify me before God…so that I end up just-as-I’d never sinned. It is imputed righteousness. Where as repentance is man’s part…we can choose what our hearts, minds, and deeds are and we are to put Jesus first in all our actions and heart and mind, but what if we mess up….then remission of sins God’s part in salvation takes over and we are considered righteous before God even though we failed to measure up to perfection.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need...Hebrews 4:14-16.
Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead to provide us with remission of sins. For those of us who have believed and obeyed… For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ...Galatians 3:26-27. So then let us live holy in our conduct and manner of life…
What is the standard of holy…then ten commandments…
Have you received from another table…you shall have no other gods before Me…
Have you bowed down to worship the created instead of the Creator…no idols
Have you used God name in only prayer and teaching…no blasphemy
Keep yourself holy by keeping the commandments of God of loving your neighbor as yourself and God first…when Jesus talked to the woman at the well He said any day now God will accept worship not just the Sabbath Day. Jews had to be in one of two situations on the Sabbath day either they had kept the other 9 commandments so they could worship on the Sabbath assembly or they had sinned and needed to see the priest and offer a proper sacrifice for their disobedience. They were in the sinner line or the assembly worshipping God because they were faithful.
Honor your mom and dad…they took care of you in diapers you take care of them in diapers
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness…do not lie or participate in a lie or half truth
You shall not covet but want what God has been giving you
Prayer
Father please grant us repentance and remission of sins so we may dwell with you forever and please prosper us and meet our soul’s deepest needs…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.
